Clinical Support Worker for Pulmonary Rehabilitation

We are seeking a full‑time Clinical Support Worker to support Pulmonary Rehabilitation in Barrow under the Community Respiratory Service. This temporary contract is funded until March 2027, with the potential for renewal. The closing date for applications is 17 June 2026. The role is based in Alfred Barrow Health Centre.

Responsibilities

• Phone patients to discuss and explain the PR programme, and arrange appointments.
• Deal with patients in a kind, respectful and sensitive manner when they contact the team.
• Work with the clinical team to assess patients with chronic lung disease for the group programme, including walk‑tests, observation tests, strength tests and supporting patients to complete symptom questionnaires.
• Support the delivery and successful running of Pulmonary Rehabilitation exercise and education classes.
• Develop knowledge of health inequalities (through provided training) to provide additional support to residents living in CORE20 areas of Barrow.
• Scan clinical paperwork onto EMIS web and complete patient consultation notes.
• Work towards National Pulmonary Rehabilitation clinical competencies and engage in local clinical skills training.
• Perform administrative tasks such as preparing patient packs and photocopying.
• Enter data into the local Excel database for the national audit.

Person Specification

Knowledge

• Level 3 NVQ in health and social care (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of physical, social and psychological difficulties experienced by people with chronic lung disease.

Skills

• Compassionate, empathetic, positive and kind attitude towards patients and carers.
• NHS record‑keeping and e‑consultation system skills.

Experience

• Experience working in a health‑care setting.
• Experience working in an NHS community setting.
• Experience working in an NHS rehabilitation setting.
