Location

We currently have a permanent opportunity for a Senior Process Operator in our Process & Pumping department covering sites in North Yorkshire (and surrounding areas). This is a mobile worker; applicants should live within a reasonable commuting distance from our Colburn WWTW.

Work type

You’ll be working 37 hours per week. As part of this role, you will be required to participate in the local catchment stand-by rota, covering your area and any other areas when required as per current arrangements. This will typically be 1 day in 10 but can be subject to change.

Senior Process Operator responsibilities

As our Senior Process Operator, you will:

  • Operate, maintain, and optimise wastewater treatment works, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and Health & Safety.
  • Responsible for routine operations, sampling, reporting, data analysis and basic maintenance checks to prevent failure.
  • Manage and prioritise workload according to available resources.
  • Provide operational support to operators and maintenance technicians as required for standby and absence cover within your operational team.
  • Perform numerous administration duties including outstanding job promotions, raising purchase orders, supporting resource planning and team hub activities.
  • Take ownership of the site and maintain a safe working environment by always implementing and adhering to Health & Safety procedures. This includes managing contractors via Control of Work (AP), inducting visitors and mitigating and resolving hazards as they arise.

Skills, experience and training required

  • Experience with complex wastewater treatment assets and control systems, problem solving and driving process improvements.
  • Technical, analytical, administrative and manual duties – attention to detail, right‑first‑time performance, independence and teamwork.
  • Practical mindset, comfortable working outdoors and hands‑on approach to tasks.
  • Problem‑solving ability, thinking on your feet in the field.
  • Teamwork or independent working essential.
  • Experience using IT systems such as Word – capturing site information on a Toughbook or mobile computer.
  • Positive outlook, pride in everything you do.
  • Full valid driving licence with no more than six points.
  • Medical fitness for occasional confined space work – completion of Occupational Health assessment, BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, Spirometry tests as required.
