Play & Recreation Facilitator

This is an exciting opportunity to work at a primary treatment center for Haemology & Oncology. We are a busy unit with both inpatient and outpatient services covering a variety of age groups.

Main duties of the job

  • Welcome patients and families to the department.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain toys and equipment – ensuring Trust Infection Control and cleaning policies are adhered to.
  • Ensure that all children and young people have appropriate access to general/normalising play, recreation activities and leisure time during their time at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
  • Ensuring children and young people have access to normalising and general play and recreation to help reduce anxiety/fear of a familiar/unfamiliar environment.

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 3 in Child Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training or willingness to undertake

Knowledge

  • Previous relevant experience, especially in the care of children/young people aged 0-19 years
  • Knowledge of the importance of play and how development can affect this
  • Knowledge of development
  • Knowledge of issues relating to consent and confidentiality
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to safe guarding and cultural and diversity awareness
  • Knowledge/experience working with children/young people with additional needs – Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disability

Professional / Managerial / Specialist Knowledge

  • Basic IT skills or be prepared to undertake training identified by the Trust
