The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Class 1 Driver to join our Transport department based out of our site in Tipton.
Responsibilities
- Driving and operating a Class 1 vehicle.
- Operating walking floor / moving floor trailers within the waste and recycling sector.
- Completing deliveries and collections between depots.
- Complete daily vehicle check sheets and defect reports as directed by the Transport Operations Manager.
- Observe all relevant driving laws and regulations.
- Use tachographs correctly and comply with drivers’ hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
- Always provide good customer service, both over the telephone and face to face.
- Observe all health and safety requirements as directed.
- Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of vehicles and work areas at all times.
- Plan routes in the most time and fuel‑efficient manner.
- Work Monday to Friday with 06:00 start times.
- Complete long, steady shifts with full use of driving hours.
- Any other duties as directed by the Transport Operations Manager.
Person Specification
- Valid Class 1 (C+E) licence with a clean driving record.
- Driver CPC qualification (or currently working towards obtaining it).
- Digital Tachograph card.
- Experience operating a mixed variety of trailer types, ideally including walking floor / moving floor trailers.
- Knowledge of drivers’ hours regulations, Working Time Directive rules, and both digital and analogue tachographs.
- Strong work ethic and reliable approach to work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional and customer‑focused manner, as you will be a key customer‑facing representative of the business.
- Smart and professional appearance.
- Good problem‑solving skills and ability to overcome challenges on the road.
- Ability to follow planned routes and schedules efficiently.
