George Watson’s College wishes to appoint a full-time, permanent teacher of Modern Studies to begin in August 2026. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to one of Scotland’s leading schools and is appropriate for both experienced and probationary teachers.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain the Standard for Full GTCS registration, undertake relevant CPD, be observed, and record all activities in the GTCS Profile.
- Work collaboratively within the department to facilitate outstanding teaching and learning, ensuring pupils are fully prepared for examinations.
- Set high expectations for all pupils to deepen knowledge and maximize achievement.
- Prepare and deliver activities suitable to each year group and learner needs.
- Demonstrate confidence in meeting pupil needs and inspire future generations.
- Develop new resources and curriculum materials, individually or in collaboration with department colleagues.
- Assess, record, and report on pupil work, ensuring timely, meaningful, and informative assessments.
- Contribute to extra‑curricular life of the School.
- Attend parent evenings, communicate with parents when necessary, and support the School’s corporate life and welfare.
- Act as a Form Tutor and/or S6 Tutor as required, performing the administrative, pastoral, and advisory duties of those roles.
Ideal Candidate
- Be a trained and qualified graduate teacher of Modern Studies, registered or eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council of Scotland.
- Be academically rigorous, dynamic, creative, and flexible in developing new ideas and resources, and adapting to curriculum changes.
- Be a team player with a passion for learning and teaching, keen to explore innovative approaches to inspire the next generation.
- Strengthen the existing team ethos within the department.
