Job Description:

We are looking to recruit an experienced class teacher for KS1/KS2 to start on 1st September 2026 on a permanent basis.

Teaching and Learning

  • Set challenging teaching and learning objectives relevant to all pupils.
  • Use objectives to plan lessons and sequences, showing how learning will be assessed.
  • Select and prepare resources, plan for their safe and effective organisation, considering pupils’ interests, needs, and backgrounds.
  • Plan opportunities for pupils to learn in out‑of‑school contexts.
  • Produce long‑term and short‑term plans in line with school policy and within required deadlines.
  • Implement and review the subject development plan with the Senior Leadership Team or line manager.
  • Develop and audit schemes of work and other documentation, supporting cross‑curricular delivery.
  • Develop strategies to promote new teaching methods and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Lead or contribute to professional development activities and promote the sharing of good practice.
  • Manage resources within your subject and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain high expectations of pupils and build successful, inclusive, and safe learning environments.
  • Teach clear, structured lessons or sequences that motivate pupils, employ interactive teaching methods and collaborative group work, including the use of ICT.
  • Promote active and independent learning, enabling pupils to plan and manage their own learning.
  • Differential teaching to meet the needs of all ability levels, considering varying interests, experiences, and achievements.
  • Organise and manage teaching and learning time effectively.
  • Use ICT effectively in the delivery of teaching and learning.
  • Provide homework and out‑of‑class work that consolidates and extends classroom learning.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals and manage the work of support staff to enhance pupils’ learning.

Support for the Curriculum

  • Implement agreed learning activities, adjusting them in response to pupil needs.
  • Implement local and national strategies (e.g., literacy, numeracy, early years) and use other activities to support skill development.
  • Support the use of ICT and develop pupils’ competence and independence.
  • Assist pupils to access learning through specialist support.
  • Prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources.

Support for the School

  • Comply with policies relating to child protection, health, safety, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Promote equality and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school.
  • Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies and professionals.
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
  • Recognise own strengths and areas for improvement and advise others.
  • Provide appropriate guidance, supervision, and assist in staff training.
  • Supervise pupils on visits, trips, and out‑of‑school activities.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Use the school’s monitoring and assessment strategies to evaluate pupils’ progress.
  • Use assessment information to improve planning and teaching.
  • Monitor and assess learning activities and provide immediate, constructive feedback.
  • Involve pupils in reflecting on and improving their performance.
  • Accurately assess pupils’ progress against standards.
  • Identify and support pupils with varying ability and those with behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties.
  • Record progress and achievements systematically.
  • Report attainment to parents, carers, and professionals.

Culture and Behaviour

  • Set high expectations for behaviour and establish a clear classroom discipline framework.
  • Create a positive inclusive learning environment with clear routines.
  • Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercising appropriate authority.
  • Undertake duties before, during, and after lessons and breaks to promote positive behaviour.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues and seek specialist support when needed.
  • Communicate academic concerns to the line manager and pastoral concerns to the relevant pastoral leader.
  • Work with adults to support interventions for pupils with SEND, following guidance from the SENDCo and external professionals.
  • Deploy support staff effectively, ensuring they have lesson content and outcomes in advance.
  • Communicate with parents about pupils’ achievements, well‑being, and behaviour.

  • Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Qualified Teacher Status.
