Job overview

A post has arisen for a senior SAS doctor in Burns and Plastics primarily specialising in skin.

The successful applicant will join a team of twenty-eight consultants within the B&P department helping deliver excellent service for patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work full time flexibly across our service, supporting the delivery of our substantial workload of skin cancer, hand and general plastics trauma and general elective plastic surgery.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons examination in Plastic Surgery – FRCS(Plast) – or recognised international equivalent
  • Fellowship training or undergoing fellow training in skin oncology or hand surgery
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery or progression towards Specialist Registration or CESR

Experience

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Plastic Surgery.
  • Experience in skin oncology
  • Experience and interest in General Plastic Surgery.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective, within Plastic surgery.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Experience in Mohs surgery

Teaching and Research

  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills.
  • Experience of delivering teaching to doctors and allied health professionals.
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Publications in the field of skin oncology
  • Postgraduate teaching qualification
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Management/Administration

  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of service.
  • Experience of audit and management
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, waiting lists and operating lists.
  • Ability to manage and lead surgical team.
  • Management or leadership training course

You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
