Head of Affinity (Accident & Health)

Location: LondonPackage: £Negotiable + Bonus + Benefits

The Head of Affinity Accident & Health will lead the strategy, underwriting performance, and growth of Millstream’s Affinity A&H portfolio, with a strong emphasis on travel‑related products, embedded insurance solutions, and digital distribution partnerships. This role will be instrumental in expanding Millstream’s position as a leading provider of white‑labelled and embedded insurance propositions, delivering scalable, partner‑led solutions across UK markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Growth: Define and execute the Affinity A&H strategy, aligned with Millstream’s growth ambitions in travel and personal accident & sickness products. Identify and develop opportunities in embedded insurance, digital platforms, and non‑traditional distribution. Expand Millstream’s presence across UK and selected international markets.
  • Underwriting & Portfolio Management: Own underwriting performance for the Affinity A&H portfolio, ensuring profitable and sustainable growth. Set underwriting appetite, pricing frameworks, and governance standards. Drive portfolio optimisation through data‑led insights, monitoring loss ratios, partner performance, and product profitability.
  • Affinity Partnerships & Distribution: Lead the development and management of key affinity relationships, including police federations, employee benefits, membership organisations, NGOs and digital platforms. Structure and negotiate long‑term, scalable partnerships. Collaborate with distribution and broker partners to deepen market reach.
  • Product Development & Embedded Solutions: Oversee development of travel and A&H products, including travel insurance (multi‑trip, embedded protection), personal accident & sickness, ancillary A&H covers and value‑added propositions. Drive innovation in API‑enabled, embedded products aligned to partner journeys.
  • Capacity & Market Management: Work closely with capacity providers to maintain strong relationships and confidence in Millstream’s underwriting philosophy. Secure and optimise capacity for growth and ensure alignment on risk appetite and performance expectations.
  • Financial Performance & Governance: Deliver financial targets including GWP, revenue and underwriting profitability. Provide regular portfolio reporting to senior leadership and capacity providers. Ensure compliance with FCA requirements and internal governance frameworks.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead and develop a high‑performing underwriting and portfolio team. Embed a commercial, partner‑centric and performance‑driven culture. Strengthen technical underwriting capability, innovation and agility.

Skills & Experience

  • Technical & market expertise: Significant A&H underwriting experience, ideally with travel or affinity focus.
  • Strong understanding of embedded insurance models and digital distribution.
  • Experience managing delegated authority or MGA environments.
  • Commercial & partnership skills with proven track record in building and scaling affinity or embedded distribution partnerships.
  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial judgement.
  • Experience working with capacity providers and reinsurers.
  • Leadership experience in underwriting or portfolio teams.
  • Ability to influence at senior level internally and externally.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong execution focus.
  • Data‑driven, commercially astute and partner‑oriented.
  • Adaptable and comfortable in a growth‑focused environment.

Qualifications

  • ACII or equivalent (desirable).
  • Key stakeholders: Chief Underwriting Officer & Executive Team; Capacity Providers / Insurers; Distribution & Broker Partners; Claims & Assistance Providers; Compliance & Risk.
