Working Hours: 35 Hours Per Week. Contract Type: Full‑Time, Permanent. Closing Date: 05July 2026. Closing Time: 11.59pm. Interview Method: Face to Face. Legal Right to Work: Candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK before commencement of employment.
Qualifications
Must hold a minimum of an ONC/OND in Civil Engineering or another relevant subject. Demonstrated experience working in Flood Risk Management in the private or public sector, with a background in SuDS design or SuDS assessment for planning applications.
Responsibilities
- Undertake the role of Engineer/Planning Application Assessor within the Flood Risk Management team.
- Carry out a senior role in the assessment of flood risk and drainage matters in planning applications and produce technical responses to planning submissions.
- Manage own caseload of diverse planning applications, including strategic major developments, maintaining quality responses and communication with the Planning Authority.
- Engage developers in pre‑application discussions, offering technical guidance and influencing outcomes.
- Collaborate with the wider team to review and resolve flood risk and drainage enquiries.
- Manage applications for consent under the Land Drainage Act 1991, issuing consents and refusals.
- Support and negotiate with partners in other risk management authorities (such as Environment Agency, United Utilities, GMCA) to manage relationships and provide advice.
- Lead the winning and delivery of funded projects.
- Revise and implement planning policies and procedures for Technical Guidance.
- Deliver our GIS Data Screening application service, engaging with the customer and meeting formal timeframes.
- Maintain close working relationships with the Planning Team and wider Highways Service.
- Serve as senior support to the team and point of reference for colleagues across Highways and the wider Council.
- Support fellow officers at Planning Committee and aid the Service in stakeholder relationships with Ward Members.
