Role Overview
As a Mainframe Storage Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient and secure storage management within our z/OS environment.
Responsibilities
- Administer IBM DS8000 storage systems and ensure high availability.
- Design and implement backup and recovery strategies using GDPS.
- Plan future storage capacity and performance needs.
- Ensure data integrity and compliance with security protocols.
- Collaborate with Mainframe and cross‑functional IT teams.
Mandatory Technical Requirements
- Extensive hands‑on experience with IBM DS8000.
- Proven expertise in GDPS (Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex).
- Strong knowledge of z/OS storage architecture.
- Skills in capacity planning, performance tuning, and incident resolution.
- Familiarity with storage security standards.
Nice‑to‑Have Skills
- Experience with migrating storage infrastructure.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as REXX or Python.
Soft Skills
- Strong collaboration and communication abilities.
- Analytical mindset for storage optimisation.
- Clear written and verbal communication in English.
- Commitment to documentation and knowledge sharing.
Availability
Flexibility to work outside standard business hours is required. Production launches typically occur after 17:00 or on Saturdays, and participation in on‑call rotations during nights and weekends is expected.
