The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate eager to help leading companies, investors and policymakers navigate increasingly complex, volatile and geopolitically sensitive metals and mining markets by collecting, analysing and delivering the data and insights they need to make informed decisions. The Analyst will contribute to our research across one or more mining and metals markets, overseeing data collection and analysis, and supporting the development and production of short‑ and long‑term forecasts. They will provide a coherent picture of supply, demand, capacity, costs, prices and key industry trends and drivers, aligning with our short‑ and long‑term price forecasts to deliver a consistent market view to our customers.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Identifies necessary data inputs and oversees procurement, collection, cleaning and validation required for forecasting supply, demand, capacity and prices across the relevant mining and metals markets.
  • Develops, produces and updates house forecasts, including supply, demand, capacity, cost and price metrics, ensuring methodological consistency and analytical robustness.
  • Contributes to Fastmarkets’ monthly and quarterly market outlooks and other regular research publications, working with senior analysts and the team manager to deliver coherent and timely updates.
  • Supplies forecasts with insight and analysis on market developments, technology, government regulations, policy, trade flows, ESG considerations and supply chain dynamics.
  • Supports the maintenance and development of cost models and asset‑level datasets, ensuring cost assumptions align with supply, demand and capacity analysis.
  • Manages client and internal enquiries about the markets and is accountable for fulfilment of requests for insight and data for presentations and bespoke client requests.
  • Provides data and analysis for client presentations, reports, industry events, forums, webinars and product marketing, supporting Fastmarkets’ external profile and thought leadership.
  • Acts as subject matter expert to showcase value to prospective clients in partnership with sales.
  • Uses their network to engage with market participants, gain insights across the value chain, promote Fastmarkets data and insights and identify opportunities for product enhancements.
  • Works with the consulting team on projects by undertaking primary and secondary research, and supporting delivery.

Knowledge, Experience And Skills

  • Working knowledge of mining and metals markets and value chains, including mining, processing, refining and downstream applications; in‑depth knowledge of one or more relevant commodities is an advantage.
  • 2‑4 years of relevant data collection, management, analysis and forecast model development experience, including internship(s).
  • Preference for previous experience in commodities research, mining and refining, commodities trading and/or industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong data identification and acquisition expertise conducted via primary and secondary research.
  • Understanding of statistical modelling and forecasting, particularly with regards to time series data.
  • Comfortable applying AI tools to support research, data analysis and workflow efficiency.
  • Familiarity with mining industry cost modelling approaches and the ability to interpret cost data is desirable.
  • Ability to critically assess technical, academic and industry sources, including feasibility studies, company disclosures and regulatory documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data analysis and forecast modelling applications.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills.
  • Confident with presenting at industry events and speaking to customers.
  • Able to foster and develop relationships with market participants and industry contacts.
  • Collaborative team player.
