Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Registered Nurse to join the team. You need to be competent in cannulation, venepuncture and administering SACT chemotherapy. The unit is nurse‑led and the post holder is responsible for assessment of care needs and toxicity assessment pre‑administration of chemotherapy and providing a specialist Oncology nursing service to patients, families, carers and health professionals.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
- Safely assess patients coming in for SACT and manage treatment‑related toxicities.
- Safely administer all routes of Systemic Anti‑Cancer Treatments.
- Perform cannulation and venepuncture; competent in accessing central venous access devices.
- Manage time for the day unit and support junior staff.
- Deputise for Band 7, manage sickness, complaints and staffing issues.
- Pre‑procedure treatments for the next day, making decisions on supportive treatments and escalating as needed.
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register.
Desirable
- Health‑care management / leadership qualification.
Experience
Essential
- Substantial post‑registration experience working in a complex health‑care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff.
- Evidence of professional / clinical knowledge in the area supplemented by specialist clinical and/or managerial training and CPD.
- Ability to act as a practice‑based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment.
- Professional portfolio demonstrating continuing professional development and maintenance of professional registration.
- Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality / acute care setting, including supervision / education of junior staff.
- Experience of mentoring undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated ability to lead / coordinate a shift / area of department.
- Experience in learning from incidents / complaints and supporting changes in practice.

Salary and Working Pattern
- Band 6: £39,959 – £48,117 per year (Agenda for Change).
- Permanent, Full‑time, Flexible Working.
