Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting safe electronic prescribing and medicines optimisation for haematology and oncology patients
  • Ensuring chemotherapy prescribing, dispensing, and administration processes comply with national safety standards and local governance requirements
  • Developing and maintaining digital chemotherapy pathways and electronic treatment protocols
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams including pharmacists, clinicians, nursing staff, digital teams, and informatics specialists
  • Supporting implementation and optimisation of electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) systems
  • Contributing to service improvement, audit, governance, and medication safety initiatives
  • Supporting national NHS strategies focused on digital transformation, interoperability, and safer cancer care pathways
  • Providing specialist pharmaceutical advice for paediatric and oncology-hiematology services
  • Delivering training and support to staff using digital prescribing systems

Person specification

Qualifications

  • MPharm or equivalent degree in pharmacy
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Additional post-registration Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or Independent Prescriber Qualification (masters level)
  • Registration with Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

  • Understand the background and aims of current healthcare and digital policy
  • Experience in providing pharmacy services/pharmacist review to paediatrics
  • Experience in providing specialist pharmacist review of people with cancer
  • Experience of handling chemotherapy in any setting
  • Experience of managing a clinical pharmacy service to a specialty on a day‑to‑day basis (e.g. whilst covering a more senior colleague)
  • Experience of writing policies and procedures.
  • Experience of developing business cases.

Analytical & Judgement Skills

  • Ability to analyse highly complex data relating to medication use and present in a way that actions and follow‑up can be identified
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
