Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical Design Engineer • Permanent Position • Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 (DOE) • Location: Coventry • Working days: Monday to Friday

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to manufacture
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation
  • Modify, improve, and optimise existing designs to meet customer and business requirements
  • Support product development activities across a range of engineering projects
  • Work closely with manufacturing, production, and engineering teams to ensure designs are practical and cost‑effective
  • Conduct engineering calculations and technical assessments to validate designs
  • Support prototype development, testing, and design verification activities
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the design process
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and specifications
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices

Essential Experience / Skills / Qualifications

  • 2-3 years’ experience within a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar position
  • Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience creating mechanical designs from concept as well as modifying existing products and assemblies
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and manufacturing processes
  • CAD design experience, with SolidWorks experience being advantageous but not essential
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a genuine interest in engineering and product development
  • Eager to learn, develop, and take ownership of engineering projects
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within the Automotive or Aerospace sectors
  • Exposure to FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and/or CAE (Computer‑Aided Engineering) tools
  • Knowledge of product testing, validation, and design verification processes
  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques within regulated engineering environments
