Camden Council is offering an initial temporary contract of 3‑6 months with the possibility of extension or permanent placement. The role of Commercial Engineer is based in N1C 4AG and requires working from 7:00 am to 3:15 pm, a total of 36 hours per week.

This position involves carrying out plumbing, mechanical and electrical repairs, planned preventive maintenance, renewals and replacements in commercial buildings, including schools and children’s centres. Works range from routine reactive repairs, planned maintenance, statutory testing and may include some design and installation work. Tasks must be carried out in accordance with industry standards such as SGF20 and CIBSIE, building and statutory regulations, British standards and manufacturer’s operating and maintenance manuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out plumbing, mechanical and electrical repairs and maintenance in commercial‑type buildings, including schools and children’s centres.
  • Diagnose building faults, determine compliance and asset failures, and decide on the best solution to resolve repair problems.
  • Plan and conduct planned preventive maintenance, statutory testing, renewals, replacements and design/install works when required.
  • Ensure properties remain well maintained with minimal disruption to customer service due to plant failure or repairs.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in at least two MEP disciplines (mechanical, electrical or plumbing). Preferably holding a recognised qualification such as NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds.
  • Practical experience in commercial building maintenance, repairs and installations, ideally in an educational setting.
  • Strong diagnostic skills, producing cost‑effective solutions and coordinating follow‑on works when necessary.
