Product Engineer

Company: Zero Gravity
Apply for the Product Engineer
Location: London
Job Description:

Requirements

  • Proven track record of building AI-powered products – not just bolting a chatbot on, but thinking hard about prompting architecture, model behaviour, and what genuinely good AI UX looks like
  • (Desirable) Experience in EdTech, consumer subscription apps, or B2B SaaS with an end-user product component
  • Technically hands‑on: comfortable enough with code to prototype ideas, run evals, and debug model outputs using AI coding tools. You don’t need to be a software engineer, but you should be able to move fast without waiting for one and move towards contributing to the codebase (Ruby, Rails, Javascript, Postgres, and AWS)
  • (Desirable) Familiarity with UK education – exam boards, curriculum structure, how schools buy and adopt software
  • Deep understanding of LLM fundamentals – context windows, RAG, prompt engineering, fine‑tuning trade‑offs, and how to measure model quality rigorously
  • (Desirable) Experience taking a product from early traction to scale – you’ve navigated the messy middle and know what it takes
  • Strong product instinct with experience owning end‑to‑end product lifecycles – from discovery and definition through to delivery and iteration – across B2C and/or B2B contexts
  • (Desirable) Have worked alongside a Growth team and understand how product and growth interlock
  • Data‑driven decision‑maker: comfortable with analytics tools (e.g. Metabase, Mixpanel, Google Analytics) and able to define what success looks like before a single line of code is written
  • (Desirable) Have worked in a company at the 20–50 person stage, where everyone does more than their job title suggests
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills – able to align engineers, commercial teams, and a founder‑CEO behind a clear product direction without a lot of process
  • Passionate about impact: you care about outcomes, not outputs, and you want the product you build to genuinely change life chances

What the job involves

  • Own the AI layer of Zero Gravity Tutor – prompting strategy, model selection, context architecture, retrieval design, and output quality across every subject and mode
  • Build and iterate on the systems that make Zero Gravity Tutor genuinely adaptive – coaching that responds to how each student thinks, learns, and prepares
  • Tackle the hard AI problems: moving from objective subjects into the subjective, solving for evaluation at scale, and maintaining quality as the product expands
  • Design and run rigorous evals to measure output quality, hallucination rates, and whether the product is actually helping students learn
  • Prototype new features hands‑on – you’ll write code, build POCs, and stress‑test ideas before committing engineering resource
  • Own the product roadmap – sequencing bets, setting priorities, and keeping the team focused on what moves the needle for students
  • Define what success looks like and hold the team to it: clear metrics on every release, honest post‑mortems when things don’t land, and a bias toward learning fast
  • Act as the voice of the student and the teacher – run user research, synthesise feedback, and translate real‑world insight into product decisions
  • Work closely with Growth and Commercial to design the loops that turn engaged users into a sustainable, scaling business
  • Shape the product experience for schools and the educators inside them – a largely unsolved problem, and one Zero Gravity is well‑placed to own
  • Work directly with partner schools and teachers to validate what we’re building, gather the insight that shapes the roadmap, and earn the trust that unlocks growth
  • Help define how Zero Gravity Tutor is packaged and positioned for institutional buyers – working with the commercial team to turn product value into revenue
  • Champion a culture of curiosity, testing, and learning – challenge assumptions, seek new ideas, and help raise the bar for product excellence
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering squad – set clear priorities, unblock decisions, and keep pace high
  • Contribute to Zero Gravity’s wider AI strategy, sharing what works in Zero Gravity Tutor across the organisation
