An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a highly regarded main contractor delivering major construction and infrastructure projects across the Midlands and wider UK. With a strong pipeline of work spanning commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, and mixed‑use developments, this is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of technically complex projects.

Working as part of a collaborative design and engineering team, you will be responsible for the development, coordination, and management of electrical building services designs from concept through to construction and handover.

The Role

  • Produce and review electrical building services designs, calculations, and technical specifications.
  • Develop designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, security systems, emergency lighting, and associated electrical services.
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical, architectural, structural, and specialist subcontractor teams.
  • Support project teams throughout design development, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover stages.
  • Ensure designs comply with current regulations, standards, client requirements and sustainability objectives.
  • Attend client, consultant and site coordination meetings.
  • Review subcontractor designs and technical submissions.
  • Identify value‑engineering opportunities while maintaining quality and compliance.
  • Support the delivery of BIM and digital engineering initiatives.

About You

  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Experience in electrical design within a contractor, consultancy or design‑and‑build environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, British Standards and electrical design principles.
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech/Trimble, Dialux or similar.
  • Experience working on large‑scale construction projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive approach with strong problem‑solving abilities.
  • Working towards or holding professional membership with a recognised institution such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology or the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers would be advantageous.
