Locum Consultant – specialising in GI Cancer
Locum Consultant in Medical Oncology with sub‑speciality expertise in GI Cancer. This is an 8 PA locum appointment for a consultant medical oncologist with special interests in GI cancer. The post will be available from June for a period of 6 months while plans for recruitment to a substantive post are worked through.
It will deliver approximately 6 PAs supporting the GI team alongside the Leeds Medical Oncology GI team, which is led by Dr Dan Swinson and supported by Dr Anthoney, Dr Collinson, Dr Seligman, Dr Williams, Dr Ulahannan, Dr Wood and Dr Samson. The remaining PAs will cover SPA and on‑call activities. There will be opportunities to contribute to MDT and departmental meetings. The post‑holder will support a 1:14 on‑call rota.
Successful applicants should hold accreditation in medical oncology from the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent and should be on the specialist register or within six months of being admitted to the register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references authorised by the deputy medical director and clinical director.
Applicants should have established skills in medical oncology. Excellent communication and teamwork skills and a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full‑ or part‑time and those wishing to job share. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the department.
Job Responsibilities
- Delivery of GI out‑patient clinics
- Attendance at MDT meetings
- Participation in ward rounds and the on‑call rota
- Prescription of systemic and hormone therapy for patients receiving treatment for GI cancer
- Discussion with patients and their relatives
- Attendance at service and departmental meetings
- Work closely with clinical colleagues and support the wider GI team with clinical activity
- Provide mutual cross‑cover for colleagues where necessary
Qualifications
