External Sales Engineer – Utilities

Visum Recruitment is working with a leading European manufacturer of high-performance plastic piping systems. With a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and technical expertise, the business supplies specialist solutions into key infrastructure sectors including water, gas, and utilities. Due to continued growth, they are looking to strengthen their external sales team across the South of the UK.
Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sales professional within the utilities sector. The role would suit someone currently working in an external sales position, but we are also keen to speak with ambitious internal sales professionals looking to take the next step into a field-based role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with utility contractors, distributors, and key end users across the South of the UK. You will identify new business opportunities, grow existing accounts, and promote a range of specialist utility piping solutions into the water and gas sectors.
You will work closely with internal sales, technical support, and senior management teams to deliver commercial growth and ensure customers receive the highest level of service and support.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Developing and managing relationships with utility contractors, distributors, and key stakeholders.
- Identifying and securing new business opportunities across the water and gas sectors.
- Managing existing customer accounts and maximising sales opportunities.
- Conducting customer visits, product demonstrations, and technical discussions.
- Providing market intelligence and competitor feedback.
- Working collaboratively with internal teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Maintaining an active sales pipeline and delivering against sales targets.
- Travelling throughout the South of the UK, including occasional overnight stays where required.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience within the utilities sector, ideally water and/or gas.
- Experience selling utility pipe systems, related products, or working for a utility-focused distributor.
- Strong relationship-building and account management skills.
- Commercially driven with the ability to identify and win new business.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Internal sales professionals with strong industry knowledge and a desire to progress into an external sales role are encouraged to apply.
