Senior Quantity Surveyor – HV Infrastructure Projects

Location: Reading or Manchester (Hybrid, 2 days onsite)

Contract: 6 months initial

Rate: £500 per day (Umbrella)

Overview

We are seeking two experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors to join a leading infrastructure business supporting major HV / private network projects across the UK.

You will play a key role in delivering both pre-contract and post-contract commercial support, ensuring strong cost control, risk management, and contractual oversight across a portfolio of high-value projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management across projects valued between £1m – £20m, working closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams
  • Review and negotiate upstream and downstream contracts, identifying and mitigating commercial risks
  • Provide robust cost control, forecasting, and commercial reporting across the project portfolio
  • Support project governance processes, including participation in project review boards and risk reporting
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across operations, procurement, legal, and finance

Role Focus

1. Pre-Contract Focus (Contract Strategy & Drafting)

  • Lead on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts (NEC and bespoke forms)
  • Develop contract schedules and support commercial strategy and risk allocation
  • Take ownership of contractual positions and lead discussions with clients and supply chain

2. Post-Contract Focus (Claims & Disputes)

  • Manage and defend construction claims, including compensation events and variations
  • Prepare robust, evidence-based submissions using contemporaneous records
  • Support dispute resolution processes, including adjudication where required

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within HV or infrastructure projects (£5m+)
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3 Option A preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and commercial project control
  • Experience in contract negotiation, claims management, or dispute resolution
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
