Berry Recruitment are NOW hiring for a committed and experienced Production Support Technician to work for a company in Milton Park, Abingdon.
Role: Production Support Technician
Salary: £30,000 per annum
Location: Milton Park, Abingdon
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of products and associated manufacturing processes.
- Provide first‑line technical support across all product ranges, triaging and repairing units to component level.
- Own investigation of production test failures and repeat issues, driving root cause analysis and supporting permanent corrective actions.
- Support and improve production test and assembly equipment to maximise uptime and process stability.
- Maintain, calibrate and commission assembly and test equipment in line with planned maintenance schedules.
- Analyse production data (e.g. test failures, rework trends, downtime) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem‑solving tools (e.g. 5 Whys, Ishikawa, 8D).
- Support the introduction of new products and process changes into manufacturing, ensuring robust transition to production.
- Create clear technical reports relating to product and process issues.
- Act as a technical mentor to apprentice technicians and production operators, supporting skills development on the shop floor.
- Ensure safe working practices in accordance with company health and safety policies, including ESD control.
About you
- GCSE in Maths and English (or equivalent), plus HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 to 5 year’s experience in an electronics manufacturing, test or repair environment.
- Strong fault‑finding capability to component level on electronic assemblies.
- Ability to analyse BOMs, circuit diagrams, schematics and technical documentation.
- Good electro‑mechanical knowledge, supported by qualification or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of production test equipment and automated test environments.
- Working knowledge of Lean tools (e.g. 5S, process mapping) and structured problem‑solving techniques (e.g. root cause analysis, Ishikawa).
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Confident soldering and rework skills.
- Ability to interpret production performance data and identify trends.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate technical issues clearly to different audiences.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- You are a self‑motivated, organised and driven individual who can prioritise workloads to ensure stoppages are resolved expediently, maximising possible up time.
- You can communicate effectively to different teams, ensuring a shared understanding of the problems.
