Job Description:

Summary of the Role

To work under the instruction and guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work, care and support programmes, enabling access to learning for pupils and assisting the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or may regularly take place outside the main teaching area, including within our Communication Interaction and Resource Base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support classroom teaching and learning of pupils.
  • Assist with pupil management and behaviour in line with school policy.
  • Provide one‑to‑one or small group support to learners to facilitate personalised learning.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of pupil progress and welfare.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to plan and deliver support sessions.
  • Adhere to safeguarding and welfare procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Relevant experience in support or teaching roles (e.g., teaching assistant, remedial teacher).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
  • Ability to adapt to a rural school environment.
  • Developmental knowledge of learners’ needs.
  • Positive, proactive, and student‑focused attitude.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Training Details

Location: Okehampton College Skills Centre, Okehampton, EX20 1PZ

Purpose: Provide comprehensive training on company policies, procedures, and systems necessary for successful integration into the role.

Schedule: Daily sessions from 9 am to 4 pm, with breaks provided.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS).
  • Attend mandatory training at DMAT Central Offices.
  • Be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020).
