At West Northants Council, it’s about our people and the positive impact they make every day. As a Enforcement and Monitoring Officer (Building Safety Levy), you’ll play an important role in shaping and supporting sustainable development across the area. Working within our Planning Enforcement and Monitoring team, you’ll help ensure that development is delivered in line with approved plans, policies and regulations, while maintaining a high-quality, customer‑focused service. This is an opportunity to work on a varied caseload, contribute to key development priorities and support the delivery of infrastructure that helps our communities thrive.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be responsible for monitoring development activity and ensuring compliance with building regulations, planning approvals and regulatory requirements, with a primary focus on the Building Safety Levy. You’ll work independently to manage cases, track and collect developer contributions and take appropriate enforcement action where required to ensure compliance. While your main focus will be the Building Safety Levy, there will also be opportunities to support the Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 functions, giving you a broad and varied experience across developer contributions. Alongside this, you’ll carry out site visits, review plans and records, liaise with developers, stakeholders and the public and provide clear advice on Building Safety Levy and enforcement matters. Through your work, you’ll contribute to maintaining high professional standards and supporting the effective delivery of development across West Northants.

About you

You’re a proactive and organised individual with an interest in planning, building, development and regulatory work. You’re confident analysing information, interpreting plans or legislation and making sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. With strong communication skills, you can engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from developers and agents to members of the public, always delivering a clear and customer‑focused approach. You’re comfortable managing your own workload, prioritising tasks and working both independently and as part of a team. Most importantly, you bring a positive, solutions‑focused mindset and share our ambition to deliver high‑quality services that support thriving communities, reflecting our THRIVE values in everything you do.

We are committed to ensuring diversity, equality, equity, and inclusion is woven into the fabric of WNC and everything we do, to enable all colleagues to develop and maximise their full potential. We are a disability confident employer, a member of the Armed Forces Covenant, and a Care Leaver Covenant partner.
