An exciting opportunity at University Hospital Aintree to support the Major Trauma Ward as a Band 5 staff nurse. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in dealing with patients with acute or complex injuries; equally welcome are candidates with experience in acute surgical settings. Applicants must possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be prepared to work in a flexible environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to inpatients within the Major Trauma Ward.
  • Adopt a strategic approach to inpatient care and support ward‑based colleagues.
  • Work effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Undertake delegated tasks from the ward sister or charge nurse.
  • Lead ward/department during duty periods following successful completion of the foundation gateway.
  • Ensure compliance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Band 5 foundation gateway competencies successfully completed.
  • Post‑registration experience, including recent acute hospital experience.
  • Experience in acute or complex injury settings, or acute surgical settings.
  • Post‑registration qualification in a relevant specialty.
  • Diploma in Nursing Mentorship/Teaching (desirable).
  • Experience maintaining a clinical learning environment.
  • Evidence of working with students.
  • Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills, including e‑mail and word processing.
  • Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and support less experienced staff.
  • Problem‑solving ability.
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care and exemplary personal standards of conduct and behaviour.
