Production Specialist – ITV Central
9-month Fixed-term contract/Secondment | Full time. Office location: Birmingham. Hiring range: £30,195 – £41,285.
ITV News Central delivers high quality, trustworthy and impartial journalism to millions of people on television and online. The role involves working in a fast-moving environment with a variety of responsibilities across the news service, primarily based at our newsroom and studio in Birmingham.
The role
ITV News Central is looking for a talented Production Specialist. You will work as part of a multi-skilled team providing technical, craft, operational and administrative skills across all areas of the news service.
To be eligible, candidates will ideally be multiskilled and familiar with craft editing or live studio operations. Skills in editing, programme timing, vision, sound, directing, media ingest and transfer, production administration or scheduling are advantageous.
You should be willing, and able, to develop new skills with appropriate training and to move between different duties on a daily basis. You will also be expected to share your own skills with others.
You will be a highly motivated, friendly and approachable team member. You will be committed to working as part of a successful team, sharing responsibility for supporting news production. You should be an excellent communicator who is quick thinking, calm under pressure, with strong and decisive decision-making skills.

Core skills and responsibilities
- Live studio and location operations, including Directing, Vision mixing, Sound, Gallery PA-ing, Autocue, Newsroom and Studio Cameras and Floor Management
- Media Ingest & Transfer, Playout
- Production Technology Support
- Scripts, Scheduling, Rosters, Logging, Clearance and Returns and other Programme administration and support
- ITVX/Digital support
- Editing and templated Graphics
- Studio systems technical operation, first line fault finding and issue reporting
- Server management and Media storage
- Camera Operator skills
Central News in the West and East Midlands is a richly diverse region, and the role aims to ensure coverage represents the people and backgrounds of the area.
Please note that rostered hours will include weekend working, late shifts, early mornings and Bank Holidays. Working patterns may include late shifts (often until 23:00) and early mornings (often starting at 05:00). You may be required to provide your own transport to the main workplace.
There may be occasions when you are required to work long and unsociable hours at short notice.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)
- Core skill in one or more of: Editing, Sound, Directing, Programme Timing, Vision, Media Ingest & Transfer, Production Technology Support, Scheduling, or Camera Operator
- Ability to multi-skill and shift between tasks under pressure
- Proactive and able to learn and apply new skills
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team
- Confident and clear communication skills

Newsrooms are busy and pressurised environments involving live news production, requiring quick decisions under pressure.
