Senior Building Control Enforcement Officer – Opportunity to lead enforcement activity within the Building Control service of Tameside Council.

This role is part of Tameside’s Building Control team, responsible for protecting the public, supporting development and ensuring compliance with building safety standards. The senior officer will manage building control enforcement activity, continuously improving processes and utilizing resources effectively.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and investigate unauthorised works and implement processes to manage them.
  • Respond to dangerous or defective buildings, conduct proactive compliance checks, and coordinate remedial actions with contractors, emergency services, and Council teams.
  • Maintain accurate case records, prepare reports and support the out‑of‑hours rota for dangerous structures.
  • Manage own workload and communicate clearly with colleagues, contractors and the public.
  • Use full driving licence to travel across the borough and participate in the out‑of‑hours rota as required.

Qualifications & experience

  • Experience working in a Building Control environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations, enforcement processes and relevant legislation.
  • Confidence in assessing dangerous structures and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Experience in a local authority building control context is beneficial.
  • Experience managing budgets, building control fee income and working within quality management systems.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work independently and within a team.
