Consultant Anaesthesia – Ashford Hospital, St. Peter’s Hospital

Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum, plus £140 HCAS (Yearly). Working pattern: Full time – 10 sessions per week, 3% on‑call supplement. Locations: Ashford and St. Peter’s hospitals, Ashford, Surrey. Closing date: 05/07/2026.

Position Overview

We are developing a dedicated elective site at Ashford Hospital to create a state‑of‑the‑art centre of excellence for planned surgical procedures. The role joins a team of over 50 consultants and 10 specialty doctors, supporting multidisciplinary clinical care across St. Peter’s and Ashford sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical, educational and managerial services of the highest professional standard at consultant level.
  • Work with existing consultants and the multi‑disciplinary team to provide a high‑quality, well‑led service for patients, including diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Provide direct clinical care, assist clinical decision‑making and share workload equally.
  • Attend pre‑operative assessment sessions and deliver peri‑operative care.
  • Engage with local and national audit projects, including NELA, and provide input to the Resuscitation Department and the Cardiac Catheterisation Lab.
  • Support clinical governance, education, research and audit activities across the department.
  • Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to teaching sessions for hospital staff and postgraduate trainees.
  • Participate in recruitment, appraisal, development and mentoring of the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Execute any other duties appropriate for a consultant.

Working Hours and Schedule

  • Full time – 10 sessions per week on a cross‑site basis between St. Peter’s and Ashford hospitals.
  • On‑call commitment included with a 3% supplement.
  • Each 10 sessions equates to 1.25 personal assistant (PA) units.

Qualifications

  • GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • CCT (or equivalent) in Anaesthesia within 6 months of interview.
  • Proved UK professional registration.

Experience

  • Ability to provide high‑quality elective and emergency anaesthesia care for adults and children.
  • Experience delivering direct anaesthetic clinical care in a modern, well‑equipped environment.
