We’re looking for a Senior Portfolio Manager – Local Investments to help build and manage our new local investment fund(s) and services.
This role is central to delivering LGPS Central’s Fit for the Future plan, supporting regional growth and the Government’s ambition for more local investment through pooling.

What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Portfolio Manager, here’s a flavour of what you’ll get involved in:
- Lead the structuring and delivery of local investment fund(s) and services, working with internal teams and external advisors to ensure products meet investment objectives, government requirements and legislation.
- Ensure they meet Partner Fund requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive due diligence and analysis of investment opportunities, including primary finds, co‑investments across the capital structure and asset classes.
- Monitor and manage the performance of local investments, including legacy assets held by Partner Funds, managing engagement, performance analysis and participation in advisory committees.
- Build and maintain relationships with appropriate market participants (fund managers, advisors, local authorities, combined authorities and other stakeholders).
- Develop a robust decision‑making framework for the allocation of assets to the local investment portfolio, overseeing and monitoring all portfolio holdings and keeping the framework under review.
- Support local investment reporting needs of Partner Funds, including assessment of local economic, social and environmental impact.
- Contribute to the integration and maintenance of the house view on local impact.
- Keep strategies under review, considering market, government and local developments.
- Work with Partner Funds and the Central Advisory/Client team to develop their local strategy, ensuring it meets the needs of the Partner Funds.
- Participate actively in the Investment Committee (IC), advising on investment portfolios and contributing to the investment strategy of the pool.
- Be an ambassador for LGPS Central within the investment community, Partner Funds, regulators and key stakeholders.
- Champion a rigorous culture of high‑performing, collaborative, research‑based investing across LGPS Central.
- Line‑management responsibility and development of the Local Investment team.
About us
LGPS Central (LGPSC) Ltd is the FCA‑regulated asset manager for eight local authority pension funds across the Midlands.
LGPS Central is jointly owned on an equal‑share basis by the Partner Funds and manages over £45bn of their assets. It is one of eight Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) asset pools in the UK.
Requirements
- Strong background in private markets, ideally within an asset management setting, with exposure to pension fund or other institutional portfolios.
- Proven experience in making and managing local investments across private markets.
- Ability to evaluate performance and risk of investment portfolios objectively.
- Strong communication skills capable of articulating local private market portfolio construction and investment selection.
- Strong analytical, financial modelling and presentation skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience of collaborative investment decision‑making and portfolio management at a senior level.
- Ability to assess and communicate local investments economic, social and environmental impact.
- Experience of management and oversight of investment portfolios across multiple private‑market asset classes.
- First‑class interpersonal, people‑management and communication skills.
- Well‑developed relationship‑partnering skills, including building and demonstrating personal credibility.
- High degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas.
Qualifications
- Degree level or equivalent.
- CFA or equivalent qualification/relevant investment experience.
- Has or can meet all requirements of being an FCA approved person.
