The rate of pay is £16.83 per hour.

Hours of work

  • 6am to 2pm
  • 2pm to 10pm
  • 10pm to 6am (for a short period of time)

Your Time at Work

As a First Line Manager your duties include:

General Responsibilities

  • To lead and manage a team of warehouse operatives and ensure the smooth running of warehouse operations, ensuring that all warehouse activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, while maintaining high standards of quality and service to ensure defined outcomes for the site and the customer(s).

Specific Responsibilities

  • In addition to the main duties and responsibilities listed below the First Line Manager will be expected to perform other duties commensurate with their skills and abilities.

Safety

  • Ensure that all warehouse activities are carried out in accordance with health and safety.
  • Drive a culture where everyone takes personal responsibility for managing the HSSE risks associated with their roles.
  • Ensure colleagues, visitors & contractors understand their HSSE responsibilities and are competent to perform their jobs safely, in a way that protects the environment.
  • Implement actions to reduce or eliminate health and safety related risks.
  • Ensure the team applies the Safety Standards and relevant guidelines.
  • Report and investigate incidents within the workplace and respond to or elevate issues of non‑compliance to safety regulations and procedures.

Security

  • Support and adhere to the required security measures to protect the site premises, including the safety of personnel, assets and the customer’s product for the required area.
  • Highlight and investigate all relevant security risks and support the implementation of identified mitigation, where necessary having proposed mitigation options to your line manager for agreement.
  • Ensure there is a managerial presence at site searches when employees are leaving site.
  • Adhere to all site security processes and initiatives.

Process framework

  • Continuously contribute to the improvement of procedures to better achieve the prescribed outputs.
  • Participate in customer, regulatory and internal operational audits as required and work with the team to implement the agreed action plan.

Customer engagement

  • Respond to or escape customer issues and recommend solutions.
  • Communicate in an open and honest way with our internal and external customers.

Resource Planning

  • Manage skills within the operation to ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
  • Support with resource planning and management e.g. implement agreed processes to review performance, monitor absence and sickness and address issues within guidelines.
  • Identify and elevate training and qualification gaps and conduct/support with induction and technical training for the team when and where applicable.
  • Communicate clear operational objectives.

Performance and Conduct Management

  • Manage day‑to‑day performance, including achievement of agreed customer KPIs and other internal KPIs (e.g. safety, operational, employee related etc).
  • Support recruitment, MPACT, disciplinary (including exit processes) and provide recommendations.
  • Conduct performance reviews and recommend performance ratings to your line manager.
  • Coach and guide all reportees.
  • Monitor performance of people, equipment and processes and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Review and manage conduct and performance, ensuring reporting processes and corrective actions for under performance are in place.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support senior management to implement continuous improvement activities.
  • Support the environmental agenda and continuous improvement activities to increase environmental efficiency.
  • Identify areas for improvement within warehouse operations and develop and implement improvement plans.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of improvement initiatives.
  • Continuously review and improve warehouse procedures and processes to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Promote feedback channels for employees (e.g Performance Dialogue boards, daily briefing sessions, EES).

Learning description of the role

  • Development of a true understanding of all aspects of running a HMRC bonded / BRC accredited warehouse facility.
  • Being able to work effectively with suppliers and service providers such as hauliers, staff agencies, product suppliers and ensure they are to the required standards for business being conducted.
  • Understand and apply all our clients’ HSSE and HMRC policies and procedures.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the requirements with regard to detailed warehouse management systems and duty management systems.
  • Understand our client’s HR and MPACT / Engagement procedures.
