Location: South East (remote with occasional travel to Guildford office)

Salary: from £34,000 per annum, dependent on skillset

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage large, complex projects, ensuring seamless execution from start to finish
  • Handle technically challenging tasks, including European Protected Species Licence (EPSL) applications, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)
  • Deliver high‑quality reports and outputs for clients, consistently meeting or exceeding project deadlines and budget constraints
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring continued trust and satisfaction
  • Document relevant professional experience and leverage it to advance toward obtaining protected species licences
  • Take ownership for the quality of survey work by providing leadership and direction to the field team
  • Maintain active membership with CIEEM
  • Ensure clear and effective communication by keeping project managers and team leads informed of all critical project developments
  • Serve as line manager or technical lead, overseeing and guiding a small team of Ecological Consultants and Assistant Ecologists, where applicable

Qualifications

  • Experienced Ecologist with an ecological or related subject degree
  • Technically competent with advanced field skills in one or more specialist areas
  • In‑depth knowledge of ecology, legislation and survey techniques
  • Hold protected species licences (e.g., EPSL)
  • Clean, valid UK driving licence and access to a car for business use
  • Ability to hold mitigation licences (desired but not essential)
  • Knowledge of ornithology, botany, or other specialist skills is a plus
  • Right to work in the UK, based in the UK
