Opportunity to join the Cancer Pharmacy Team as a Band 5 Cancer Pharmacy Technician, based at the Churchill Hospital with coverage across sites.

The successful candidate will bring strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with an interest in developing leadership skills to support the Senior Pharmacy Technician. The Cancer Pharmacy Team is a large multidisciplinary team covering the Churchill and Horton Hospitals.

Applicants should ideally have a hospital pharmacy background or community pharmacy experience and a successful completion of the relevant units of pharmacy services skills, ideally NVQ level 3 (QCF) or an equivalent GPhC accredited training programme. Appropriate training will be provided for those wishing to transition into the hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver Medicine Management service to adult cancer in‑patients, out‑patients and day‑case patients.
  • Provide pharmacy service to Day Treatment Units in Headington and Banbury.
  • Patient counselling.
  • Participate in dispensing for labelling, dispensing and checking, where qualified.
  • Respond to enquiries and requests from staff, patients and carers, providing accurate information and escalating questions when appropriate.
  • Engage in CPD opportunities.
  • Attend the Annual British Oncology Pharmacy Association Conference on a rotational basis.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician with NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Comprehensive dispensary experience in hospital or community pharmacy.
  • Experience in training/supervision of other staff.
  • Enthusiastic, responsible attitude and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Team player, considerate of others’ needs and committed to Trust values.
  • Adaptable to change and able to use own initiative.
  • Committed to CPD and PDP.
  • Good time management, organisational and prioritisation skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Responsive to direction and constructive feedback.
  • Basic all‑round pharmacy knowledge.
  • Professional appearance, adhering to the Trust dress code.
  • Accredited for Medicines Optimisation work or willing to undertake training.
  • Accredited Checking Technician or willing to undertake training.
  • Completion of a recognised Leadership Training programme.
  • Experience with automated dispensing systems.
  • Role model demonstrating a professional attitude at all times.
  • Experience in pharmacy stores and distribution.
  • Patient counselling skills.
  • Conscientious approach, capable of producing evidence of CPD.
  • Participation in induction of new staff as required.
  • Fire Marshall trained and First Aid trained.
  • Certificate of Competence in Vocational Assessment (CAVA).
