Overview

Are you a technician with a passion for civil engineering, making precision drawings, and willingness to collaborate with others and a desire to learn? Buro Happold is looking for a talented and motivated Technician, at the early stage of their career, to join our Bridges team in Edinburgh. You will be responsible for modelling, drafting, and producing technical drawings of a variety of bridge projects, working closely with our Infrastructure team.

As part of our global network, you will collaborate with professionals who share your enthusiasm for engineering excellence. Your next role

We are looking for a passionate and proactive technician, at the early stage of their career, who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to learn and apply that to their job. You will bring curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to develop new skills and software expertise. Confidence in engaging with engineers and coordinating design details is key, as is a genuine interest in bridge design and knowledge-sharing.

Skills and experience

  • Understanding of general arrangement and outline drawings for bridge and/or structures.
  • Ability to independently interpret models and drawings produced by others, including architects, engineers, and clients.
  • Knowledge of civil structures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, tunnels) within both 2D and 3D environments.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Experience using engineering drafting and modelling software, with examples including AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, or similar platforms.
  • IT hardware and software capabilities, including familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality, with a willingness to actively contribute to project design and workshops.
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines (not essential).
  • Knowledge of reinforced concrete detailing (not essential).
  • Understanding of BIM principles and prior involvement in BIM-based projects (not essential).
