Concrete Finishers

Specific Responsibilities / Key Skills

• Concrete Finishing: Ensure that all concrete surfaces are level, smooth, and free from defects, achieving the required finish (e.g., polished, textured, etc.).
• Tool & Equipment Use: Operate hand tools and machinery for finishing concrete, such as trowels, floaters, screeds, and power trowels.
• Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces for concrete pouring, ensuring proper grading and leveling before placement.
• Quality Control: Inspect concrete for imperfections and ensure proper curing methods are followed to achieve optimal strength and durability.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all health and safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe work environment.
• Teamwork: Work with other concrete finishers, laborers, and project managers to ensure that tasks are completed on time and according to specifications.
• Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve any issues with the concrete mix or finishing process and suggest improvements as needed.

Work Experience / Technical Skills Required

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in concrete finishing within at least one of the following sectors: Airports, Sea Ports, Highways, or Industrial Projects.
• Proven ability to work with concrete, smoothing and finishing surfaces to a high standard.
• Experience using concrete finishing tools and machinery.
• Solid understanding of concrete types, mixes, and finishing techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
• Experience working in construction environments with attention to safety protocols.
• Preferred: Experience in larger, complex infrastructure projects, particularly in airports, sea ports, or highways.
• Preferred: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Preferred: Knowledge of industry-specific concrete mixes and finishing requirements.

Educational Qualifications / Training Record

• Preferred: Relevant certifications in construction or concrete finishing (e.g., CITB, NVQ in Concrete Finishing).
• Training in health and safety standards (e.g., CITB Site Safety or SMSTS).
• Additional qualifications in specialized concrete techniques would be advantageous.

Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

• Ensure all work is performed in line with the company’s health and safety policies.
• Report any unsafe working conditions to the Site Manager or senior staff.
• Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices regarding waste disposal and site cleanliness.
• Maintain proper housekeeping around work areas to avoid accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
