Here is an excellent opportunity for a committed, caring, experienced midwife to utilise and develop the full range of clinical skills and enhance the community midwifery service. Working in a diverse community as part of a supportive team and with links to other family services – Family Nurse Partnership, Children’s centres, Family support workers, GP’s and Health Visitors – you will carry a caseload providing holistic care for women and their families, promoting safety and home birth as well as supporting women with high‑risk pregnancies from conception to parenthood.
Responsibilities
Provide antenatal, low‑risk intrapartum and postnatal care to women in the community/home environment.
Support women during labour in home or hospital settings and participate in the on‑call rota. Manage your own caseload and community clinics on a day‑to‑day basis, working weekdays, weekends and overnight on call. Act as temporary team leader when required and work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver timely care.
Develop and maintain clinical practice through training, supervision and specialist midwives. Participate in studies, trials, and procedural improvements.
Maintain competency in venepuncture, perineal suturing, highly technical monitoring, antenatal, labour and postnatal care, emergency management in the absence of medical staff, and transport in all weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Current UK NMC Midwife Registration
- Diploma level studies or equivalent portfolio of evidence
- Successful completion of a mentorship course
- Child protection training – sound knowledge of child protection, domestic violence, substance misuse and women with special needs
- Basic neonatal and adult life support knowledge and skills
Experience
- Knowledge and experience in all areas of maternity services, developed through continuing professional knowledge
- Expertise in venepuncture, cannulation, perineal suturing and highly technical monitoring
- Experience working within normal and abnormal antenatal care, labour and postnatal care and managing emergencies independently
- Knowledge of child protection policy and legislation in practice
