The Role

A position has become available for an experienced and motivated individual to join the Construction Team. The learner journey at City College Plymouth is at the heart of everything we do, and as a department we continue to adapt to the evolving demands of the building services and property maintenance industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and organising practical training areas, assessment bays, and workshop facilities used for building maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring workshops, stores, tools, equipment, and training resources are maintained in a safe, clean, and operational condition.
  • Monitoring and managing workshop stock, materials, consumables, and replacement parts, placing orders as required.
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and preparing hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.
  • Supporting tutors and learners during practical sessions by demonstrating safe working practices and providing guidance on building maintenance tasks, including carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating, basic electrical work, and property repairs.
  • Assisting with the preparation of practical assessments and ensuring workshop environments meet health and safety requirements.
  • Promoting a positive learning environment that reflects current industry standards and best practice within the property maintenance sector.

  • Collaborating: Collaboration is important in this role because the technician must work closely with teaching staff, management, colleagues, and students to prepare resources, maintain safe workshops, manage materials, and support the smooth operation of the Plumbing department.
  • Problem Solving: Problem solving is essential in this role because the technician must identify and resolve issues with equipment, stock, materials, and workshop operations to ensure teaching staff and students can work safely and effectively without disruption.
