Prison Support Role – HMP Belmarsh – Driver

Operational Support Grade Driver – HMP Belmarsh (£31,664)

As an Operational Support Grade Driver, you will play a key part in supporting the day‑to‑day running of a busy prison. Your duties involve security and searches at the gate, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, monitoring phone calls and CCTV, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds. The role requires a mix of desk duties and physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and walking.

You will work a variety of shifts, including weekend and night shifts, to keep the prison running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Security and searches at the gate
• Managing deliveries
• Supervising visitors
• Monitoring phone calls and CCTV
• Escorting vehicles across the prison grounds
• Performing desk duties and physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and walking

Qualifications

• Full, valid UK driving licence (including the D1 vehicle category)
• Ability to drive vehicles with no more than 16 passenger seats, a maximum length of 8 metres, and a trailer up to 750kg
• Good communicator
• Ability to stay calm under pressure
• Good judgement and common sense
• Team player
