Job Description:

£25,802 to £26,582 per annum (for exceptional performers, there is scope for further progression up to £30,569 per annum).

OnsiteThis role will be based on site, primarily in the named location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing a welcoming, safe and secure environment and encouraging all site users to promote a secure environment through their own conduct.
  • Providing advice, guidance and support on all security‑related matters across multiple sites, ensuring continued excellence in performance, profile and service.
  • Planning and delivering proactive patrol strategies aligned to specific risk profiles and adapting them as needed based on dynamic security demands.
  • Compiling comprehensive reports, conducting initial investigations into security breaches or incidents of crime, and identifying crime trends.
  • Investigating breaches of security and student discipline and assisting in enabling further action.
  • Cooperating with police and other external agencies in investigating all criminal activity affecting the University and its users.
  • Undertaking regular patrols of all University buildings and grounds, checking the security and safety of all property.
  • Providing a dedicated University key‑holder service, ensuring timely locking and unlocking of all areas and buildings.
  • Managing security equipment including alarms, CCTV, access control and car park management systems and reporting defects.
  • Carrying out vehicular access‑control duties and monitoring parking regulations.
  • Providing cover for security resilience across wider university sites and maintaining security databases, reports and event logs.
  • Acting as a first‑aid responder after appropriate training.
  • Preparing call‑out procedures for tradesmen, contractors and emergency plans.
  • Adjusting working hours and arrangements as necessary.
  • Providing any other duties as appropriate by the Head of Security.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Academic foundation and a full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced security setting with front‑line security and customer service experience.
  • Proven experience in a similar customer‑facing or security‑oriented role.
  • Proven experience of working in a busy customer service environment.
  • Proven experience of providing excellent customer service.
  • Proven experience of conducting minor investigations and compiling written reports.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to handle incidents in a busy and unpredictable environment.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and difficult situations calmly and effectively.
  • Ability to offer exceptional customer service and engagement with students, staff and visitors across all University estates.

  • Valid level 2 Door Supervisor SIA Licence.
