The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is now recruiting for Professional Technical Officers (Electrical Engineering Assistants) to join their team.
Location: Throughout NI vacancies in Belfast, Craigavon, Dungannon, Omagh, Newry, Ballymena, Londonderry & Antrim
Salary: £33,542 – £34,231 (under review)
Role Summary
In this role, you will report to the Higher Professional and Technology Officer (HPTO) grade, and are responsible for all aspects of the provision, operation and maintenance of street lighting and traffic light illumination.
Key Duties:
- Supervision of contractors
- Application and monitoring of Health and Safety measures
- Site surveys and collection and interpretation of data
- Preparation, updating and approval of electrical engineering and lighting drawings and documents
- Street lighting project design and implementation
- Use of engineering and general IT facilities
- Management of electrical and structural inspection and testing programmes
- Investigation of public liability claims and possible attendance at court
- Enforcement of legislation
- Liaising with staff from different disciplines and work areas
- Dealing with issues raised by members of the public and line management
Essential Criteria
- At least a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent*
- 1 years post-qualification experience, gained within the last 5 years, in design, specification, testing or commissioning of electrical systems to BS 7671 in one of the following areas;
- i) preparation and updating of electrical engineering or lighting design drawings
- ii) supervision of engineering contractors or direct labour
- iii) preparation and interpretation of electrical engineering reports or lighting design reports and calculations
- Have access to a form of transport, which will permit the candidate to meet the requirements of the post in full.
*Applications will also be considered from applicants with relevant formal qualifications considered by the selection panel to be of an equivalent or higher standard to those stated, for example: Level 3 electrotechnical, Am2 and City and Guilds 2382.
