Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support centre assistants, ensuring smooth coordination of shift activities.
- Enforce Health & Safety regulations, normal operating procedures (NOPs), and emergency action plans (EAPs) to prevent incidents and ensure a safe environment.
- Respond promptly to accidents and administer First Aid or escalating appropriately, ensuring timely documentation of incidents.
- Oversee daily facility cleanliness and hygiene standards; identify, report, and coordinate repairs or replacements of equipment and fixtures.
- Liaise with internal teams (Estates, contractors) for on‑site maintenance and support.
- Allocate tasks to centre assistants to maintain operational efficiency.
- Coordinate and supervise children’s programmes, including holiday camps, courses, and events or competitions.
- Provide cover for other Duty Officers during absences and assist in flexible shift coverage.
- Monitor and ensure timely completion of cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Oversee and manage two designated operational areas in agreement with the Operations Manager.
- Assist in training new and existing staff in accordance with approved training programmes, ensuring familiarity with SOPs and EAPs.
- Promote and comply with UWE policies on Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities.
- Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and participate in relevant working groups.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned by the line manager, in consultation with the post holder.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and facility operations.
- Experience in customer service and incident management.
- Ability to train and mentor staff effectively.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying shift patterns and operational demands.
- Two years’ industry experience in the Leisure or Health & Fitness sector.
- Experience organising activities within a leisure centre setting.
- Strong enthusiasm for sport, exercise, and active lifestyles.
- Proven ability in customer service.
- Experience in supervising staff.
- Understanding of sport and exercise‑related programmes.
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to engage university staff, students, and the wider public.
- Ability to follow instructions and provide clear direction to others.
- Confidence in promoting facilities and services to a diverse audience.

- Tues 15:00 – 23:00 (8 hrs)
- Weds 15:45 – 23:00 (7 hrs)
- Thurs 15:45 – 23:00 (7 hrs)
- Week 2:
- Tues 16:00 – 22:30 (6.5 hrs)
- Thurs 14:00 – 22:30 (6.5 hrs)
- Week 3:
- Mon 07:00 – 15:00 (10 hrs)
- Weds 07:00 – 14:00 (7 hrs)
- Thurs 07:00 – 14:00 (7 hrs)
- Week 4:
- Fri 07:00 – 12:45 (5.75 hrs)
- Sat 08:30 – 21:00 (12.5 hrs)
