Purpose of Role
We are looking for a reliable and hands‑on Caretaker to join our facilities team at Newfield & Talbot School supporting a unique school campus comprising both a mainstream school and an SEN school. This is a varied and rewarding role where you’ll play a key part in maintaining a safe, secure, and well‑functioning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Job Description
This is an important role supporting the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the school, helping to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role operates on a rotating shift pattern:
- Shift 1: 6:00 am – 2:00 pm
- Shift 2: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Shift 3: 11:00 am – 7:00 pm
Flexibility is essential to cover all shifts as required.
Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the school site, ensuring buildings are secure
- Carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks
- Monitoring and maintaining site safety and cleanliness
- Supporting contractors and overseeing site access where required
- Conducting routine inspections of facilities and reporting issues
- Assisting with room setups and site preparation for school activities and events
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures
Essential Qualifications/Skills
- Experience in caretaking, maintenance, or facilities management (preferred)
- Practical DIY skills and the ability to carry out minor repairs
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently
- A proactive and flexible approach to work
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices
- Good communication and teamwork skills
