About The Role

The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is looking for a Data Analyst Apprentice in the Berkshire area. The programme is a bespoke apprenticeship sponsored by Thames Water to address skills gaps within their supply chain. It features a compulsory industry rotation, giving apprentices experience in different environments and increasing the chances of further employment in the sector.

Responsibilities

An apprentice data analyst is responsible for collecting, inputting, cleaning, and preparing data for analysis, as well as creating basic reports and visualisations. They support more experienced analysts in modelling data and may also be involved in basic programming tasks. As they gain experience, apprentices are expected to learn new tools and techniques and take on more complex responsibilities in data analysis. Duties may include:

  • Identify data sources to meet the organisation’s requirements using evidence‑based decision making.
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to determine reporting needs and deliver accurate information.
  • Collect, compile and cleanse data, solving problems that arise from a range of internal and external systems.
  • Generate performance dashboards and reports during the visualisation and model building phase.
  • Maintain and develop analysis reports, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and legislation.
  • Create standard and non‑standard statistical and data analysis reports.
  • Analyse and interpret data trends and patterns, drawing conclusions and providing guidance.
  • Summarise and present data analysis results to stakeholders, offering recommendations.
  • Ensure data storage and archiving align with relevant legislation such as GDPR.
  • Use databases including PowerBI, Python and Excel.
  • Use programming languages such as SQL, HTML, JSON.

Typical Working Week

40 hours per week, with a start time typically between 07:00 and 08:00, inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

Office‑Based Role

This role involves prolonged periods of desk‑based work, computer use, and telephone communication within an office environment. K10 Apprenticeships will consider reasonable adjustments where possible to support individuals in carrying out the essential duties of the role.

Minimum Requirements

English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4/C or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.

Desired Requirements

A high interest in developing knowledge and understanding of key concepts and techniques that help organisations effectively use data to make decisions.

Key Training/College Information

K10 will enrol the apprentice in the Level 4 Data Analyst course and fund qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 24 months, with up to 3 months for the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Eligibility

  • Living in England for the last 3 years and having right to work status.
  • Not enrolled on any other courses.
  • 18 years or older due to site H&S rules.
  • Must drive and have access to a vehicle.
