SEN Teaching Assistant

Edgewood Academy in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide support for pupils with additional needs. This is a full-time, term-time role within a specialist, therapeutic learning environment focused on supporting children with SEND, including SEMH, autism, and communication difficulties.
The successful Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching staff and the SENDCo to deliver tailored support that promotes engagement, emotional regulation, and academic progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs
- Support the class teacher with differentiated learning activities
- Adapt tasks to meet individual pupil needs
- Promote inclusion, engagement, and positive behaviour
- Support emotional wellbeing and behavioural development
- Monitor and record pupil progress
- Assist in maintaining a safe, structured learning environment
- Work collaboratively with staff and the SENDCo
Requirements
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant or supporting children with SEN
- Understanding of SEND/SEMH/autism needs is desirable
- Patient, resilient, and supportive approach
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Willingness to use or develop digital learning tools
