This role involves creating a safe, supportive and welcoming environment across our Cornwall campuses, working closely with students, staff, visitors, emergency services and wider support teams to deliver an outstanding student and campus experience.

This is far more than a traditional security role. As part of a close‑knit and highly respected team, you will combine proactive campus safety responsibilities with frontline welfare and pastoral support, helping students during challenging situations and contributing positively to campus life. No two shifts are the same, and you will have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the wellbeing and safety of our university communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct foot and vehicle patrols across campus and off‑site accommodation.
  • Respond to incidents, alarms, emergencies and welfare concerns.
  • Provide compassionate support to students experiencing wellbeing or mental health difficulties.
  • Assist with building evacuations, first aid incidents and emergency response procedures.
  • Monitor and operate security systems including CCTV, SafeZone and access control systems.
  • Support car parking enforcement and traffic management.
  • Assist students and staff with access issues, lost keys and out‑of‑hours support requests.
  • Liaise with emergency services and external support agencies where required.
  • Complete statutory checks, reports, audits and general campus safety duties.

Professional Development

  • SIA Licence training.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • Mental Health First Aid.
  • ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
  • Safeguarding and welfare training.
  • Additional operational and customer service development opportunities.

This role offers the chance to work within a supportive team culture while developing valuable experience in campus safety, welfare support, conflict management and emergency response.

Benefits

  • Employer Pension Contribution up to 10%.
  • 26 days + 8 days bank holiday.
  • Life Assurance.
  • Subsidised Sports Centre Membership (Gym & Fitness Classes).
  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity Pay.
  • Cycle Scheme & Home & Tech Scheme.
  • Vivup Lifestyle Discounts.

This position is offered on a permanent, full‑time basis, with an average of 42.46 hours per week on a 4 on/4 off rotating night shift pattern, providing campus support 365 days per year.

Due to the nature of this role, a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required, as well as a full valid UK driving licence.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in customer‑facing roles with challenging interactions.
  • Ability to de‑escalate difficult situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Confidence in responding to welfare or wellbeing concerns appropriately.
  • Ability to produce accurate written reports and maintain clear records.

Closing date: Tuesday 16 June 2026.
