Permanent, Part‑Time (0.8) position, funded for the 2026/27 academic year. The successful candidate will not be expected to commence prior to August 2026.
Merton College is seeking an inspiring and committed English Lecturer to join our School of Adult Education. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping adult learners develop the English skills they need to progress in education, employment and everyday life.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality, inclusive teaching across a range of levels.
- Act as a personal tutor, supporting learners’ academic progress and wellbeing.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the curriculum.
- Manage evening teaching sessions.
Qualifications
- Degree or Level 6 qualification in English or a related subject.
- Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience teaching English to adults in a Further Education or similar setting, including Functional Skills and GCSE.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Experience of curriculum development and resource design.
- Good planning, preparation, organisational and administrative skills.
- Strong IT and digital literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and an awareness of educational technologies and collaborative tools.
