About the Role

Our client, an established and growing law firm, is seeking an experienced Head of Department – Housing to lead and develop its Housing Team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior Housing Solicitor or legal professional with strong leadership and business development experience. The successful candidate will oversee the department, drive growth, ensure compliance, and maintain a small personal caseload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and develop the Housing Team.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to fee earners and support staff.
  • Drive business development and generate new instructions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with referral partners and key stakeholders.
  • Manage a modest caseload of housing matters.
  • Ensure compliance with SRA, Legal Aid Agency, and internal regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor departmental performance and support future growth.

Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or equivalent with significant Housing Law experience.
  • Proven experience managing and supervising legal teams.
  • Strong knowledge of housing matters, including possession proceedings, homelessness, disrepair, and unlawful eviction.
  • Experience within a Legal Aid environment.
  • Demonstrable business development and networking skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.

Desirable

  • Legal Aid Supervisor status.
  • Established referral network within the housing sector.
  • Experience leading or growing a Housing Department.
