Ortus Group is working exclusively with a leading City firm’s highly regarded Banking & Finance practice to recruit an ambitious banking & finance Associate (3-5 PQE) to support the continued growth of the team and deliver exceptional service to a diverse client base.
The Banking team advises on a broad range of financing transactions for both lenders and borrowers. While the practice has a strong focus on real estate finance, it also supports a variety of other departments, particularly Corporate and Private Client. Clients include banks and financial institutions, private equity investors, corporate borrowers, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals.
The team is led by a former Magic Circle partner and is supported by a close-knit group of lawyers and business support professionals. Due to its size and structure, the team offers excellent exposure to partners, clients, and high-quality work from day one.
Joining the team, you can expect a varied and intellectually stimulating workload, including advising on a wide range of finance transactions, drafting bespoke finance documents and agreements, acting as a key point of contact for clients, and project-managing transactions through to completion. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven Banking Associate (3-5 PQE) to join a thriving practice handling sophisticated, high-value matters while developing their expertise within a supportive and ambitious team.
Examples of Recent Work
- Acting for a real estate debt and private equity fund, on a number of borrowing base facilities across England, Ireland and Spain to support bridge and small development lenders with their liquidity requirements.
- Acting for the Finance Group on a variety of financings, including the Marriott hotel in Canary Wharf, the Hilton hotel in Manchester, and various residential investment holdings.
- Acting for borrowers on a £300 million financing relating to a major City office block and a high-performing London supermarket property.
- Acting for a leading pharmacy chain in connection with the group’s £180 million revolving credit facility provided by a four-bank lending club.

Key Responsibilities
- Delivering clear, commercial and high-quality legal advice on a range of banking and finance matters.
- Acting as a day-to-day contact for clients on ongoing and new matters.
- Supporting the continued growth of the practice through business development and relationship-building activities.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Experience gained within a recognised banking and finance practice, with exposure to a broad range of finance transactions.
- Experience drafting bespoke financing agreements for banks and financial institutions and/or reviewing finance documentation when acting for borrowers.
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with approximately 2-4 years’ PQE.
- Strong technical understanding of banking and finance law and its commercial application.
- Excellent client relationship and business development skills.
- Strong academic background with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High levels of professionalism, commercial awareness and integrity.
