Our client, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), is seeking a new Client Director (Custom Programmes) for its Lifelong Learning division which is central to LSE’s ambition to extend its academic mission beyond degree education by providing transformative learning experiences to professionals, organisations and lifelong learners worldwide.

Reporting to the Director of Commercial & Growth, the Client Director (Custom Programmes) leads the development, acquisition and stewardship of high‑value organisational relationships that commission bespoke executive and professional education from LSE. The role is responsible for growing revenue through securing new partnerships, deepening existing client accounts and ensuring the delivery of impactful, academically grounded programme solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Custom Client Partnerships – Lead a portfolio of organisational clients, ensuring strong, enduring and commercially valuable relationships
  • New Custom Business Development – Identify, qualify and cultivate new organisational prospects across private, public and third‑sector markets
  • Lead Proposal and Solution Development – Oversee the development of high‑quality custom proposals, working closely with the Bid Manager, Programme Design, Operations and Marketing
  • Market Insight, Positioning and Proposition Development – Supported by the Marketing Intelligence function, maintain strong knowledge of competitor activity, executive education trends and emerging client needs to inform relationship and product strategy
  • Collaboration and Operational Excellence – Work collaboratively across the division to ensure seamless delivery of custom engagements from pitch through to programme execution
  • Leadership and People Management – Provide inclusive, values‑led leadership to the client relations function, setting clear expectations and modelling professionalism, integrity and fairness.

Skills / Experience

  • Significant experience in business development, strategic account management or consultative sales with complex private, public or not‑for‑profit organisations
  • Demonstrable experience influencing and advising senior leaders, with credibility in C‑suite, strategy, HR, or L&D contexts
  • Knowledge of executive education, organisational development or leadership development markets is desirable
  • Outstanding influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to secure commitment from senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong consultative‑sales capability: able to uncover organisational needs, shape solutions and guide clients through complex decision cycles
  • Ability to design or co‑design high‑level programme architectures in collaboration with faculty or subject experts
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate client needs and identify long‑term partnership opportunities.
