Senior Backend Developer (Java | Financial Markets Platform)

Location: London, UK

Work Pattern: Hybrid (2/3 days onsite)

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join a global engineering team building a cutting‑edge financial markets trading platform. This role offers the opportunity to work on a high-performance, real‑time system used for pricing, execution, and trade processing.

You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams across locations and play a key role in delivering scalable, low‑latency solutions in a fast‑moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver high-quality backend solutions from concept to production.
• Build and enhance real‑time, event‑driven applications.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and global engineering teams.
• Break down complex projects, drive delivery, and mentor junior developers.
• Ensure adherence to best practices in coding, design, and performance optimisation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and technical road map.

Core Skills

• 7+ years of experience in backend development.
• Strong expertise in Java (Core Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, RxJava).
• Experience building REST APIs & reactive Web services.
• Strong knowledge of microservices architecture.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Helm.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar).

Data & Messaging

• Experience with SQL and distributed data stores (Cassandra, Hazelcast).
• Knowledge of messaging systems such as Kafka or Solace.

Additional Skills

• Experience building low‑latency, high‑throughput systems.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and system design.
• Exposure to full‑stack development (React, TypeScript) is a plus.

Domain Experience (Must have)

• Financial Markets or Investment Banking.
• Derivatives or e‑trading platforms.
