About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Support Worker to join our Mental Health team at HMP Winchester, a category B prison located in Winchester. HMP Winchester is a busy male remand prison with a capacity for 650 inmates. There is free parking on site and it is close to the town centre. We welcome applications from candidates that have experience within healthcare, a willingness to learn, and want to pursue a career within Mental Health.

Monday – Friday0800 – 1600
Salary
This position is full time; you’ll receive an annual salary up to £30,684 per annum.

What you’ll be doing
- Provide a holistic and individualized approach to care and improve the lives of people with mental ill health by minimizing the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services and promoting recovery. You will provide evidence‑based interventions within the Practice Plus Group healthcare wellbeing model.
- Deliver triage of patients and, using decision support systems, refer for a GP or nurse consultation as necessary.
- Contribute to the care and documentation (ACCT) required for those individuals being at risk of self‑harm or suicide as per prison policy and undertake patient risk assessments and take appropriate professional action when the nature of behaviour, symptoms or illness are likely to lead to self‑harm or injury to others.

What we’ll look for in you
- Willingness to undertake training in mental health awareness, suicide, self‑harm and ACCT procedures as well as health promotion and screening.
- Previous experience as a mental health support worker.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently.
