The Role
As a SEND Support Assistant, you’ll work closely with teaching staff and specialist professionals to provide high-quality support for pupils with a range of additional needs.
Responsibilities
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Support learning, communication, and emotional development
- Encourage independence and celebrate individual achievements
- Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils with personal care and mobility where required (full training provided)
- Contribute to a positive school culture where every child feels valued and supported
Qualifications & Attributes
- Compassionate, patient, and resilient
- Calm, positive, and nurturing in their approach
- Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning
- Strong communicator able to build meaningful relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare
- Eager to learn and develop new skills within SEND education
- Experience supporting children with SEND is advantageous, but also welcome from candidates with backgrounds in care, youth work, coaching, mentoring, childcare, health and social care, or other child-focused settings
- Knowledge of sensory approaches, communication strategies, and tailored interventions would be beneficial
